Before you buy a used eFoldi
- Ask about the batteries first. How old are they, and how far does it go on a full charge now? Batteries usually last 2–4 years, and a replacement lithium pack can cost £200 or more. "New batteries" in the listing is worth paying a little more for.
- Fold it yourself. Check the hinge locks firmly both open and folded, with no wobble in the frame or the steering column, and that you can manage the catches.
- Test drive it. Forwards, backwards, up a slope and round a tight turn. Listen for grinding from the motor, and check the brakes hold it on a slope when you let go.
- Check it fits your car and your life. Measure your boot, and think about who will lift it. If you want to fly with it, check the battery's watt-hours (Wh) on its label against your airline's rules.
- Charger, keys and paperwork. Make sure the charger, keys (if it has them) and any manual or service history come with it. A dealer warranty is worth having.
- Pay through eBay. eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers you if it isn't as described, even when you collect in person, but only if you pay through eBay. Never pay by bank transfer to a seller you haven't met.

Questions
How much is a used eFoldi worth?
Based on current eBay UK Buy It Now listings, a used eFoldi typically costs £1,231 including postage, with the cheapest at £466. Newer scooters, scooters with new batteries and ones from dealers with a warranty sell for more. These are asking prices, so you can often pay less.
How does the eFoldi fold?
A British-designed ultra-light folding scooter with a lithium battery. It folds by hand in one piece, usually in a few seconds, and can then be wheeled along like a trolley or lifted into a car boot.
How heavy is the eFoldi?
Sellers on eBay list the eFoldi at about 17kg (the middle of 9 listings that state a weight). Weights vary between versions and with or without the battery, so check the maker's figures for the exact model and year.
Can you take the eFoldi on a plane?
The eFoldi uses a lithium battery, the kind most airlines accept for mobility aids if it meets their size rules (usually up to 300Wh). 3 of the listings here say they're airline-friendly. Always check with your airline before you book, and take the battery's label or paperwork with you.
How far does the eFoldi go on a charge?
Sellers list a range of about 14 miles. Real range is usually less: it drops with older batteries, hills, cold weather and heavier riders. Ask the seller how far it goes now, and how old the batteries are.
