Questions

Should I get a folding scooter or a boot scooter?

A folding scooter is quicker to put away and wheel along, which suits frequent car trips and travel. A boot scooter takes a minute to split into pieces, but each piece is lighter and the scooter is usually sturdier and cheaper used. If bending is hard, an auto-folding scooter does the folding for you.

How heavy a scooter can I lift?

Be honest, and think about doing it every trip, often in a car park. Many people can manage 15kg but not 25kg. Lithium folding scooters weigh about 12–25kg in one piece; boot scooters split so the heaviest piece is often around 10–15kg.

Can I try a mobility scooter before I buy?

Yes: mobility shops will usually let you try models, and many towns have a Shopmobility scheme that lends scooters, which is a good way to find what suits you. Your GP or an occupational therapist can also advise.
